Chef Gorji’s Puttanesca gourmet pasta sauce was awarded silver in the prepared food, pasta sauce category by the 2016 Scovie Award judging panel of top culinary experts.
Best Spicy & Savory Food Products Honored At 2016 Awards
The Scovie Awards is an annual competition that recognizes the top savory, spicy and fiery food products in the world. The awards were named after the Scoville Scale, a measurement of the spicy heat of a chile pepper. It is one of the most competitive blind tasted food competitions. Hundreds of products are entered and go through rigorous tastings to receive the top honors.
Dave DeWitt, founder of the Scovie Awards said there were 126 total companies entering this year, with entries from 30 states and 8 countries. “Companies from all over the world continue to recognize the Scovie Awards as the most competitive and challenging blind taste-tested event in the world,” DeWitt, said.
Scovie Spotlight Features Puttanesca Recipe
See Chef Gorji’s recipe for Grilled Chilled Avocado with Puttanesca Sauce and Poached Shrimp in the Scovie Spotlight where it is featured. The recipe is from Chef’s award-winning Zing! By Gorji Cookbook.
In Italian lore, the intense fragrance of this sauce is a siren’s call to enjoy it whenever possible. Chef Gorji adds fresh basil, capers, chopped olives, and some cayenne pepper to his fresh-picked Pomodoro sauce to create a sauce that’s a zingy version of a classic. With vine-ripened tomatoes, fresh basil and garlic, capers, kalamata olives, and cayenne, it can be used with chicken, beef and seafood such as shrimp, mussels, clams, cioppino or any recipe requiring spicy tomato sauce. Even a plain meatloaf will be the star of the dinner table when accompanied by spoonfuls of this puttanesca sauce. Or serve as a dip with cold shrimp for a fresh and tangy take on the classic shrimp cocktail.”
